Expressing gratitude connects us to the purpose of what we do and experience each day. Intentionally highlighting actions or behaviors that you appreciate has the power to drive higher levels of performance and productivity. When working on teams, creating moments for individuals to receive meaningful recognition energizes and encourages more of what we want and need to see in the organization.

To be most impactful, it is important to make notes of gratitude specific. We often hear stories about people who save thank you notes or special cards for years. The notes that touch people the most and end up in a special box or drawer are ones that include a personal connection and thoughtful account of the impact of the individual’s contributions.

Gratitude Tip

A note of gratitude doesn’t have to be a thank you note. Many organizations have “shout-out” and other formal recognition opportunities. Use these reflection questions to multilply the impact of your next expression of gratitude.
