To show we have taken all the right steps to support an employee’s success, it’s necessary to document performance problems and conversations. This documentation may not only protect the organization in the case of a lawsuit, it ensures all employees are treated fairly and consistently. The first step to documenting poor performance and non-compliance is to speak with your leader and the organization’s human resource department to ensure the correct process is followed. The following guidelines are recommended by the Society for Human Resource Management.
