Communication is essential for a smooth functioning team and organization. Often, the struggle is defining what types of communication are most effective and which are not. Thinking through the communication process may be helpful as we determine effective ways to communicate in our professional life and in our personal life. The diagram below outlines the process of communication. Notice that it all begins with the sender. The sender must know the message to be sent and the most appropriate way to convey the message. Not only must we factor in the intended outcome, we should consider the receiver of the message.
