00:01
hello I’m Robin large and I’m a student
00:05
eater coach and I’ve been in this
00:08
position for about ten years and work
00:11
with districts and organizations across
00:14
the country to really work on something
00:17
we call organizational excellence which
00:20
is achieving terrific goals set by those
00:23
particular organizations and working to
00:26
improve the culture because we know
00:29
culture Trump’s strategy each time but
00:33
we need both
00:34
before coming to student as a teacher
00:40
and then was a building level leader a
00:43
district leader and then had great
00:45
opportunity to work at our local
00:47
university and that that opportunity at
00:50
the university really found my passion
00:53
which is working with new leaders and as
00:57
part of that new employees so I want to
01:01
spend just a bit of time focusing on
01:04
mentor programs and mentorship we know
01:08
that mentor programs are designed to
01:10
really help and support new employees
01:15
new leaders in gaining skills but
01:18
they’re also intended to help new
01:21
employees new leaders learn the culture
01:24
of an organization and in learning the
01:27
culture we know that we’re going to be
01:30
some more supportive and more
01:32
understanding of the goals that we’re
01:35
trying to achieve mentor programs can be
01:41
informal where they just kind of happen
01:44
but we’re really talking about and
01:46
focusing on those intentional programs
01:49
that really are very thoughtful and
01:52
systematic about how they match mentors
01:56
and mentees that’s the critical part of
02:00
a mentorship program is are we looking
02:04
at the skills of both folks and the
02:08
abilities and perhaps personalities of
02:11
both and trying to match those so
02:14
they truly can create a great mentor
02:18
relationship and it really is about
02:21
extending that hand of relationship and
02:24
that connects directly to the culture of
02:27
the organization but we as an
02:30
organization have to create those formal
02:34
mentor programs in a way that makes
02:37
sense
02:38
mentor programs also can’t just be a
02:42
check on the calendar that we meet once
02:44
a month and we’re done but it’s more
02:47
organic in that when the time arises in
02:51
the need is there we have to as mentors
02:54
and mentees agree to be a part of coming
02:58
together in creating that good rich
03:01
conversation we know that mentor
03:05
programs help organizations and help
03:08
organizations achieve the goals they
03:11
intend but it requires being very
03:15
thoughtful about the process and making
03:19
mentorship a part of your culture so
03:23
it’s not that check off but it truly is
03:26
a commitment to one another to be a part
03:30
of the best culture possible so I look
03:35
forward to hearing from you and I really
03:38
challenge you to think about what is the
03:41
mentor program your organization
03:43
currently has how could it be enhanced
03:46
and if you don’t have a mentor program
03:49
where would you begin how would you
03:52
start
03:53
we know mentorship is important mentor
03:56
programs are important
03:58
it really helps develop that great
04:01
culture and extend that great culture
04:04
and also moves us down that path of
04:07
continuous improvement this is a
04:10
learning opportunity and it’s a learning
04:13
opportunity for all of us so I look
04:16
forward to hearing about your
04:18
reflections as you think about and
04:20
continue to develop your mentor programs
