The organization’s talent pool encompasses employees who are being prepared for vertical or horizontal advancement. Vertical advancement means promotion within the organization. Horizontal advancement means the individual’s competencies are enhanced so that he or she has a broader scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities in keeping with the organization’s direction.
To assess the potential of employees identified for advancement, he/she is rated on each of the factors in this tool. Then, use the ratings and overall assessment to determine the employee's opportunity for advancement. How can you support the employee and guide to relevant professional development? Is there a current opening would be a good fit for the employee, based on your assessment? Use your assessment to have a conversation with the employee, as appropriate.
