Managing Voices Scenarios
It is essential for our team members to feel valued, if we expect them to perform at the highest levels to meet organizational goals. A leader is responsible for creating the conditions that foster collaboration and open discussions during team meetings. When one or a few individuals consistently dominate team interactions, engagement and trust in leadership are endangered.
Leaders value all voices when they use strategies that encourage participation from all team members during meetings and employee forum events. Asking participants to record their ideas on sticky notes, engage in think-pair-share, conduct a gallery walk, or post in a parking lot, helps manage varying personalities and ensures individual contributions.
Read Scenario 1 and Scenario 2. Decide what you could do before, during, and after the meeting to best manage the situation and hear from everyone in the room.
